Our Story

The Davis 20 Ranch has been owned and operated by the Davis family  for over 120 years and five generations. It has survived two world wars, the great depression, two global pandemics and countless other challenges while continuing to stay in the same family that founded it.
Following the turmoil of the American Civil war the Davis family moved from the piney woods of North East Texas to the open plains of Clay County. S.O. started the Davis Ranch using the D-Bar brand that is still in use today.
In 1921 toward the end of his life S.O. purchased some more land Thornberry, Texas. This included the purchase of the Thornberry ranch house, a 10 bedroom house built in the 1870s. S.O. and his family would move into the ranch house where he would continue to grow his cattle operation. He renamed the ranch the Davis 20 Ranch after this purchase.
The ranch was passed to his son Luis Davis. Luis would bring the ranch into the modern era. He would be the first Davis to use tractors and other modern farming and ranching techniques and equipment.
Luis’s son Wayne Davis would continue ranching throughout his life while also opening up a successful tractor dealership. Wayne’s son Brad would eventually take over the Davis 20 Ranch and continue the legacy of the ranch to this day. Brad has two sons Will and Cole Davis who live and work on the Ranch. Will and Cole are the 5th generation to live and work on the Davis 20 Ranch and they plan on continuing the legacy of the Davis 20 Ranch and the D Bar brand for generations to come.
